Investors in Pupils Award

We are delighted to announce that the school has received the Investors in Pupils award. The award followed the visit from an assessor, who spent the day talking to the children, staff, parents and governors and looking at how we ensure the children’s voice is central to our work.

Some of the assessor’s comments from her report are outlined below:

It is clear that pupils and staff at Acresfield have high aspirations and that pupils enjoy coming to school

Pupils understand that learning is life-long, “You never stop learning” (Year 4 pupil). They understand that everyone is unique and learns differently and that sometimes extra support or intervention is needed, and provided, either in class or individually.

Staff encourage pupils to be involved in shaping their own learning through assessment techniques. Older pupils lead parent / teacher meetings and discuss progress and future targets

All stakeholders are justifiably proud of the inclusive ethos and the many innovative ways in which children are given opportunities to express their views and opinions.

Children are given many opportunities to take on responsibilities both at class and school level, for example, play leaders, buddies, line leaders, teacher PA, contributing to ACC (Acresfield Children’s Chronicle). Pupils clearly feel proud of and enjoy their responsibilities, expressing the belief that they are, “making a difference” and “helping” their school and in some cases the wider community.

Children who were interviewed spoke about work the school does on promoting good behaviour and said as a result any incidents are extremely rare. They are very positive that if they put a note in the “Worry Pig” it will be dealt with quickly by the Learning Mentor who provides support for pupils.

We are all delighted to have our commitment to the children’s voice recognised in this way. A great way to start the school year. We look forward to building on this work in the coming months.
